I want to share with you some real numbers that show how terrible the state of gambling is in Australia.
Australia is ranked 55 in the world based on population.
Australia is No 1 - 20% of the worlds pokies are in Australia! The highest per capita in the world!
Australia is No 1 - 76% of the worlds pub and club poker machines are in Australia!
Australia is No 1 - $24.9 billion lost per year to gambling! Highest per capita in the world.
These figures are based on 2017-18 numbers.
Let me just add that Australia as a nation, wagered a staggering
$218.9 billion in 2017-18!
Can you imagine what the number of 24.9 billion dollars actually represents?
That is equivallent to 366,931 employees at 2021 average weekly earnings.
That is the equivallent of 23,355 houses valued at 2021 combined capitals median house price.
While you process these numbers and let that sink in, let me share with you that according to the HILDA Survey 2015, 1.1 million regular gamblers were estimated to have behaved in ways that cuased or put them at risk of gambling-related problems!

But it just get's worse.
Research has found that between 15 and 20 percent of the homeless population of Australia are homeless due to a gambling addiction!
That is about 56,000 people in Australia are homeless due to a gambling problem!
